On a semi-cloudy Sunday, I went to this cosy restaurant having breakfast and chilling out with my friend. I am not a big fan of Hello Kitty; nevertheless, I could find my experience in this restaurant pretty pleasant. This restaurant is located in a peaceful neighbourhood in Tai Hang, a few miles away from Bing's Tea Restaurant. Surrounded by some nostalgic tenement buildings, you could see lots of bourgeois non-native residents with their cute dogs running rushing back and forth to their owners
This restaurant is located in a peaceful neighbourhood in Tai Hang, a few miles away from Bing's Tea Restaurant. Surrounded by some nostalgic tenement buildings, you could see lots of bourgeois non-native residents with their cute dogs running rushing back and forth to their owners there. As we entered the restaurant at around 9:30 am, there was a family of three there having their breakfast and we soon placed our orders.
As for the decor, the place is well-decorated with Hello Kitty being everywhere. The tables, the water glasses, the stuffed dolls, you name it. Though the place is not spacious, you could enjoy the warmth of spring and the excitement of being on "HelloKittyLand". There are not many seats inside the restaurant but there are some more seats outside the restaurant.
Regarding the food, the menu does not offer a wide variety of breakfast choices. However, the food are quite exquisite. What we ordered were a set of all-day breakfast and a set of British breakfast (to the shop owner: not English breakfast I am afraid to say) with some waffles on it. We did not have high expectations on them as most cartoon-themed eateries disappoint most foodies. To our surprise, the food quite thrilled us. While most food was cooked in the shape of Hello Kitty's silhouette, the eggs were cooked to perfection and the tomatoes were well seared. The bacon was savoury and the salmon was fine. The toast and the beans were nicely done and the sweetcorn was appetizing. The salad was well seasoned. What surprised me most were the sauteed mushrooms. The portion was fine for breakfast. The only flaw we could find is that the waffle was served without any syrup or any other condiments. The waffle was thus quite bland.
Moving on to the drinks, the latte art on our coffee was a sight of feast. The designs of the latte art on our iced coffee and hot coffee were cute. The taste of both our coffee was fine, though there was little hint of rose in the hot rose latte, which was quite disappointing.
Concerning the service, there were only one waiter and one chef/waiter. But we were fine bout it since it was quite early and not many diners there before 11:00am.
Taking into account the place of the resturant, the price of the food was acceptable. Not ripping us off nor good value for money.
There were some souvenirs such as cookies and tumblers for Sanrio fans to buy. Besides having a meal, you could take a tangible piece of the memory home.
All in all, Hello Kitty Secrer Garden is a must-go restaurant for Hello Kitty lovers. In this tranquil surroundings in Tai Hang, you could spend a wonderful morning having breakfast here with your favourite Sanrio character. But I would not highlu recommend non-Sanrio fans to go to this restaurant since it would not be much fun for them.
