After a day of shopping, boyfriend and I decided to sit down for a cake break at Beans. The menus are also nicer now. Almost like a magazine. The menu is in English and Chinese. You order by scanning a QR code that worked fairly well. When we were there they had an afternoon tea set menu that included a drink. But the seasonal menu caught my eye. They were offering a mooncake set and was partnering with Trappist Milk. Other cafes were also involved in this collaboration by offering promotional deals. But Beans offered mooncake set.
Called Dancing on the Cloud ($68), this was two mooncakes and a cup of Trappist Milk yogurt on a tray of dry ice. There was some chocolate crumbs and fresh strawberries. The yogurt was slightly sweet. I wonder if they added honey to it? The mooncakes were reheated so it was warm and gooey. The custard filling was nice but I guess I expecte a bit more. They were from Patissserie La Lune which does a lot of crossover mooncakes. I felt this was a fairly good deal to have two mooncakes. It also offers a way to taste the mooncakes before forking out for a box.
Boyfriend had a cake set from the afternoon tea menu that comes with any drink. Beans used to have these wonderful roll cakes but it appears they have since changed their menu. Now they offer a variety of mousse cakes. This is the mango one. It was a bit disappointing. A bit too spongy and not that much mango taste.
If you order a latte, you can get a 3D latte art. This is what boyfriend did and was given two angry looking dogs. It was cute. But the coffee was a bit meh.
The mooncakes were a fairly good way to try out the mooncakes. Service was friendly and it was a decent enough place to rest. Though the cake wasn't as good as before.
