I love a good charcuterie. A few slices of good cured meats with cheese and a glass of wine. I'll order it at a restaurant or I'd create my own for dinner parties. Or there are just some days I'm at home alone and I just make a plate for myself while curling up in front of the TV.Reserva Iberca is originally from Barcelona, Spain. Reserva Iberca is originally from Barcelona, Spain. With shops in various areas of the world, their acorn fed Iberica ham is a favorite among many. In Hong Kong, they not only have a shop that sells their products in Sheung Wan, but they have a much nicer restaurant in Wanchai. Now, they have a completely new concept. A casual tapas bar and cafe that is located in Causeway Bay's new Lee Garden 3. Where you can have a casual bite with a cup of coffee or even wine. All with no 10% service charge.
Now, that caught my eye. In a very food heavy city like Hong Kong where 10% service charge has become a norm in nicer establishments, it's rare to find one that doesn't apply this charge.
The restaurant is truly like a cafe. With a wide open space and a take away counter on one side.
There is a small sitting area that started to fill during the day with a varying number of tai tais who were also here for a glass of wine and a bit of ham.
The drinks menu appeared to be on a black and white chalk board.
They also had a food menu in a clip board. All was in English. You can order various sliced hams, tapas or even pastas.
What was really nice they had fairly good value for money sets for breakfast and lunch.
And this is a good value as well. An afternoon tea set. For two people ($268) or one person ($138) if you don't feel like sharing. So rare to find tea sets for one! What is really excellent it comes with a coffee or tea or you can add $45 for a glass of cava, red or white wine to go with your ham and cheese. Or even go free flow for $188. That's amazing! And all with no 10%!
We chose the tea set and added an aubergine fries with chipotle mayo ($48) tapas. These were delish. The coating was crunchy but thick enough to coat the sliced eggplant. The eggplant had a good meaty texture. The dip was spicy. You didn't feel it at first but then it sinks it and wow. It hits you. Great little tapas. You also get quite a bit as well for $48.
We chose the tea set for two ($268) and added two coffees. From bottom right to left: 30 months serrano ham, 30 months, countryside fed Iberico ham, bruschetta, Mediterranean sardine with escalivada. From top right to left: Grande Reserve Comte cheese, Manchego Viejo cheese, puff pastry, red velvet cake and few nuts (cashews and almonds) and dried fruit (cranberries and oh fresh fruit jelly!) This was a fantastic platter. The serrano ham was soft and fragrant. But the Iberico had a stronger more intense taste. The comte cheese was a on the strong side for me but it was balanced by the lovely fresh fruit jelly. The Manchego Viejo was a great tasting hard cheese. Not too strong but still had a good strong flavor. The bruschetta was good but I loved the sardines. Not a fan of it usually as I fear the fishy taste, but here it wasn't as strong. The puff pastries were literally just puff pastries. And the red velvet cake was ok. I guess I have higher expectations for cake. But if you really think about, the star of this platter is the cheese and ham. And that is where it does well. All in a reasonable price.
The coffee I had was gorgeous. The latte art was lovely. The coffee was strong and fragrant. A bit too much foam but espresso ratio. But I was impressed. I didn't expect much from the coffee as I tend to like to have my coffee at independent coffee shops but this was pretty good.
The afternoon set is great and I did see a single lady just having one by herself with a glass of cava. I'll definitely be back for this. A great option to get away from noisy Causeway Bay.
