A relaxing day at the waterfront area of Tseung Kwan O, we decided to explore the Ocean Popwalk area to see if there was anything interesting for dinner. The Ocean Popwalk area is usually very busy on weekends with lots of dogs wandering around. So, it was nice and relaxing to be here without all that. And it was perhaps due to the solitude of this area, we noticed this place called 22 Branch Oyster Bar & Restaurant. We had never noticed it before but I guess it's been here for a while. They had
They had a number of oysters on display. The sign showed their daily catch. As I had a craving for oysters, we decided to have dinner here.
Menu is in English and Chinese. Aside from oysters, they also have various other seafood items along with pizzas, pastas and grills.
The place is spacious and I found they used popular quotes about oysters to decorate their wall.
We were here for oysters! So we ordered Daily Oyster (1/2 dozen for $268). The staff informed us the oysters tody were Boomer Bay Australian Oysters though the sign said Elizabeth's Pearls from South Africa. I guess they ran out? Oh well ... always go with whatever the restaurant deems fresh. It was served on a big bed of ice along with a couple of lemon slices and two other condiments: pickled onions and cocktail sauce. I just love it with lemon so that's what I went with.
The oysters were fresh and briney. Crisp and not the creamy variety. Not a large size but plump.
We then decided to orders some mains. The first was the Roasted BBQ Baby Spare Ribs ($208). I was truely taken about by how large the ribs were. I guess I was expecting baby back ones. But these were big! The meat was so tender, it fell off the bone. You didn't even need to chew. They used a Texas style BBQ sauce with a nice bit of kick to it. Crisp fries, a fresh salad and grilled corn was served as well.
The 22 Branch Signature Pizza ($188) was topped with arugula. Slices of Jalepeno was found with sweet roasted cherry tomatoes and bits of mince meat (a bolognese it said on the menu). There were also slices of olive and plenty of cheese. All on a crisp flat crust. This was a really decent pizza.
Very decent food with attentative service. Relaxing and not crowded atmosphere. And definitely fulfilled my oyster craving.
