Mamaday Studio is probably one of the most interestingly designed cafes in the city. I've seen so many photos of it and always wondered where it was. Thus, boyfriend and I decided to find it. Located in Yau Ma Tei, a quick walk from Temple Street, is this colorful old Hong Kong colonial style building. The entire cafe is all three floors of this building so you can also get a look at the architecture from within. The bottom floor is where you order and pick up your food. You also return your plat
The bottom floor is where you order and pick up your food. You also return your plates here when finished. The upper floors are found at the end of this hall.
This narrow outdoor area is where you find the door to the upstairs area. It's located at the very end. They own two cats so they require you to lock the gate to the bottom floor along with the doors to the balcony.
Once you open the door, you'll find this mind blowing colorful staircase.
The entire building has a whimsical decor. Plenty of places for you to take selfies.
There are also seats every where including the staircases.
There are two floors upstairs for dining along with a balcony area.
Their cats also roam freely. Or in my case, they were asleep when I was there.
Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge. They serve various coffee varieties and other drinks along with light bites. I'm always interested in cake. Apparently, they have 12 limited edition cakes that change weekly at random. So, be sure to ask what the cake is that day.
They also sell whole cakes for take away. The limited cakes are also avaiable as well. Something I should remember if I want to pre-order cake.
I wanted coffee but this drink called Tofu & Tofu Ice Cream ($48) peaked my interest. This was really good. A shot of espresso blended with tofu and followed by a scoop of delicious tofu ice cream. The drink was good. It just felt like adding soymilk to coffee but it was much better. The coffee itself was smooth and full body.
The limited cake that day was Honey Apple Cheesecake ($58). The cake was very creamy with a light flavor of apple. Not too sweet at all.
We also had a chiffon cake called Hazelnut Hochija Chiffon Cake ($52). Generously drizzled with a rich hazelnut chocolate sauce. The cake itself was soft and cloud-like. It held together well and had a strong taste of Hochija. I love how the cakes were also festively Halloween.
When I first heard about this place, I thought it would only look like a place for selfies and the food would be forgotten like so many places like these. But I was wrong. The food was really good. The decor was interesting and fun. The place isn't noisy and crowded. A great quiet place to relax. Will definitely be back.
