Sitting quietly in Kennedy Town, Waffling Beans serves Liège-styled waffles (one popular variety of “Belgian waffles”) in a thoughtfully decorated café. The spacious place and relaxing ambience make it a perfect place for thoughts to wander and inspirations to fly in. I particularly love their playlist – a witty selection of songs for different moods/times of the day.

The owner is a Taiwanese lady who makes me feel she’s my old friend from far. Her passion for food and beverages made her eyes sparkle when she introduced the menu to us. Felt extremely confident in her, we just let her take in charge of our lunch.

I had a cup of Cappuccino ($42) to start with. Was surprised how there wasn’t any sugar bags on the table – apparently, because we wouldn't need any! The perfect portion of sugar and milk didn’t shade the beautiful taste of high quality coffee beans, making it extremely smooth and aromatic.

The serving temperature however was what I appreciated the most – I hate to wait for the coffee to cool down when I want to enjoy the cup of coffee classily while I work/chill. And in Waffling Beans, it was just right for a sip!

Let’s get to the main – All The Best ($108)

I liked the burger-like presentation of waffle. It was indeed rather avant-garde! The waffle was covered by crispy bacons and Mozzarella, with a hearty portion of greens at the bottom. Unlike other ordinary eateries who buy Mozzarella from supermarkets, Waffling Beans uses fresh Mozzarella which is solid in texture and that has an actual taste (not just Balsamic Vinaigrette).

And the waffles? Brilliant. Like I said, dense and intense. The outer layer was baked crusty and the inner layer was dense yet soft. The strong aroma of herbs quickly spread across the room and took over our senses. It was a complete indulgence experience that made Belgian waffles special and memorable.

Towards the end of our satisfying lunch, we discovered a little delight at the back of our seats – the wall full of magnetic letters! Wreck our little brains and dig out the secret artistic part!

Other Info. : The menu is served all day with starters, salads, pastas, as well as both savory and sweet waffles. Despite the all-day menu, the owner said they would change the menu and start to offer sets! Anxiously waiting for it!
