It was nearing Christmas so boyfriend and I met his friend and girlfriend for a small X'mas gathering as we wouldn't be seeing them over the holiday season. As one of them worked in the Tsuen Wan area, we decided to eat here as she was working late. She informed of us this new restaurant near her work place that she wanted to try.

Norayo the Tteobokki is actually found inside BBQ Military and is a partitioned area specifically for them alone. What you don't get is  Korean BBQ like BBQ Military offers. What you get is an entirely different Korean eating experience.

For $138 per person, you get an all you can eat experience never seen before. It definitely is different. They have a promotion of three cans of soft drink for $10 or three cans of beer for $12. We ordered three cans of Coke and three cans of beer. Free tea is available but we wanted something more than tea.

Each table has a built in well where a pot will be placed inside. The pot is specially designed in that the rim is grooved to place an egg/cheese mixture inside that will be grilled away like other popular Korean BBQ restiaurants. The center is a deep pot where a soup based is poured inside along with various popular items commonly found in budae-jjigae (Korean army base stew). Items include fish balls, slices of Spam, instant noodles, vegetables and rice cakes.

In the center of the restaurant is a buffet table of similar items that were found in the original budae-jjigae along with variety of other rice cakes. So, after you've eaten all the egg and the the original items in your pot, you can come to the buffet table and get even more things to heat up. Notable mention is a sweet yam rice cake version that was particularly tasty.

I also found an area of the buffet table where they had other instant ramen flavors.

The soup base that was given was not spicy at all. It had a slight tomato flavor but not too strong. They had a section in the buffet area where they had a variety of different sauces that you could add to the basic soup base to change the flavor. From the basic hot bean sauce to something called ginseng and chicken, there was a lot of combinations. All items in the buffet area were, however, only labeled in Chinese. No English is available.

Found this in the buffet table. Korean fish cakes. These were ok but the fish soup it came in was really good.

After you are nearly full, this is the third part of this odd eating experience. As you hot pot away, the soup will become more and more thick. You then go to this section of the buffet area where you get some rice balls, cheese, corn and nori.

Your soup base should be nearly dried out by then. You then add the rice and mix it with the remaining soup in a semi stir fried rice style.

The cheese, corn and nori is then added and further stir around.

At the end you get a stir fried cheese rice. This last step with the rice can be done by yourself or if you want, you can ask the staff to help you. Personally, I think this was the best part of the evening as the rice was flavored nicely from the soup base and there was a nice stretchy cheese mixed into the rice.

Interesting concept. Definitely not something I have ever tried before but every item was very familiar as well. It seemed like they combined a lot of different Korean favorites all in one. I wonder if this is popular in Korea as I saw at TV in the back that kept showing Korean celebrities eating something similar. However, as this is a new restaurant and something that is very new in Hong Kong, there wasn't a lot of instruction. We were a bit confused at what to do and looked at what other people around us were doing so we just followed them. The staff tried to explain as best as possible on what to do and was much appreciated. But it wasn't too busy as it was new so I don't know what will happen if it starts getting busy. A fun experience and very inexpensive. Perhaps return again for a diffferent Korean dining experience.
