Usually for special occasion i would look for high-end restaurants where i have never been.

This time for me and my husband’s anniversary, i have decided to look for a more affordable luxury! So i have chewed up many reviews in Openrice and found this French restaurant under the Mira Group.

Settled in a window table with a view of the Central pier.
The menu i’m interested in is the Wine pairing lunch that costs around $500/head, including amuse bouche, 2 starters, 1 main course, pre dessert and dessert + 4 glasses of wine.

I’m not an expert in wine so i wouldn’t go into detail.

Amuse bouche this day is Slow cooked salmon, pair with Brut. To me slow cooked food should be eaten warm, but it comes as a starter so it’s cold, i actually sweat after putting this piece of salmon in my mouth, just like canned salmon.....that wasted the slow cooking because it’s not tender nor juicy....

Duck confit and foie gras terrine with pickled plum, plum jelly and toast, pair with white wine
Tasty especially putting together a piece of terrine, jelly and toast

Seared scallop & apple condiments, pair with white wine
Scallop to me can’t go very wrong as it taste good no matter raw or cooked, with or without seasoning , unless it’s not fresh, so this dish is tasty, as expected.

Cod with lentils in curry sauce, pair with red wine
This is the dish that disappointed me, i don’t see the Frenchness in it, not to mention i don’t expect to taste curry in French cuisine....to me it’s simply not the taste I wanted in this lunch.
To judge on the dish itself, cod fish is strong in taste as well as curry, the two together did not become harmony, instead it confused me, I could not appreciate the matching after all

Iberico pork belly with gnocchi
This is the dish my husband chose, pork is ok, only the gnocchi surprised me as it came grilled, taste like mochi

Chocolate cake with mousse is ok

Special sandwich cake for our anniversary
Thanks to the restaurant for the thoughtful arrangement, it’s complimentary and taste not bad

Passion fruit sorbet & mousse is ok

Overall it’s not WOW, everything is good except food is a bit weak, but I must say it worth what it charged
I would recommend this restaurant for an affordable luxury experience, for special occasion on a budget.
