Dak galbi (or chicken stir fry) is a Korean dish where marinated chicken is served on a big cast iron pan. It's usually served over a burner tableside. Once you finish the meal, you add rice or udon and cook it with the sauce left over from the dak galbi.

This dish originates from the Korean city of Chuncheon. I remember visiting it once and I found it quite funny that EVERY single restaurant seemed to be serving this dish.

Recently, a new restaurant has opened in Hong Kong that serves an all you can eat version of this. The restaurant is called Yoogane and is actually from Busan, Korea but it was brought here by the same group who created  Mou Mou Club, a favorite all you can eat shabu shabu place of mine. Due to it's popularity, there are restaurants throughout South Korea and they have expanded to now Hong Kong. Located in Shatin's New Town Center, boyfriend and I decided to go try it out, dragging his mother along.

When we arrived at lunch on a weekday, we took a number and waited one hour until the first round of diners finished their meal. As it is all you can eat, you only have 90 minutes to do so. But as it was lunch, they have an option of 60 minutes but only one round of chicken galbi but sides are all you can eat.

Menu is in English, Chinese and Korean. They have a menu with photos that is in the front of the restaurant. But generally, you chose what type of galbi you are interested in and rice or noodle.  During lunch session, they offer a 60 minute session for $118 per person. Decide before hand because when they call your number, you tell the staff what you want before you sit down.

Sides are available on one side of the restaurant. It's all you can eat. This includes various Korean canned drinks and coffee and tea. Sides include a broad range of kimchi, fried chicken, japchae and soup.

The sides were ok though a it on the salty side. Especially the short ribs. But the fried chicken were ok only if they are fresh out of the kitchen. Otherwise, they were chewy. The fried squid was worth a mention.

They also have ice cream. It's a bit secretive to get this as there is a staff member standing in front of the freezer. You have to ask them for the ice cream where they will ask what flavor you want (vanilla, chocolate or sweet potato). The staff then opens the freezer door. Or should I saw a sliver width crack? Slips you one cup of ice cream. Why do they do this? I have no idea as the ice cream wasn't really that good anyways.

After eating away at sides for half an hour, the dak galbi finally arrived! Considering we only had 60 minutes to eat, that took quite a long time. So, they had the dak galbi on one side and the fried rice on the other to save time. However, if you do go for 90 minutes, you do get your fried rice separately after you finish the main. As I feared it might be too spicy for me, we chose marinated chicken bulgolgi. I thought the taste was ok, the chicken was moist. Boyfriend's mother agreed, too. But boyfriend disliked it. I guess he wanted spicy. The fried rice was ok but I think it would have tasted better with cheese so perhaps next time add the extra $30 for cheese.

It was fun though I don't think I'd return. I think it's a bit difficult to do all you can eat for this as it was much too filling. We couldn't finish this at all and there was so much leftovers, we felt guilty as we weren't allowed to take it away. But fun none the less.
