Was looking for a cafe to have a sit and chill in my bustling life. Recommended by my friend, we decided to go Esc. Esc was a spacious rustic cafe. Seating was cozy with some privacy between seats. Brioche french toast was quite a surprise and unique. In spite of only two servings, each serving was indulgent that two was in fact just right. Brioche was pan seared in golden colour. Soft with a toasty flavour. A crème brûlée caramelised top was served above the brioche. Every cut was a cut of cracking caramelised sugar. Every bite was paired with the crème brûlée custard. Combining the side pistachio cream, it was exquisite. Pistachio cream was in foamy texture. Not heavy or thick at all. Perfectly giving extra nuttiness from the sweetness. Berries were also serving as garnish. A ten out of ten.
Ovenbaked apple crumble was kind of a let down for me. Apple was cooked perfectly. Spiced with cinnamon, cooked soft and serving it extremely hot. Meanwhile, I didn't expect the crumble topping was on a cookie side or I would say cobbler texture. It was not bad because it was very buttery, but when the 'crumble' fell into the apple mixture, it immediately absorbed the apple syrup and became soggy. It wasn't as crispy or nutty as the traditional ones. In addition, the apple mixture was also added with raisins which not my favourite and ending up too fruitily sweet. It was also served with a vanilla custard but I didn't drizzle at all considering the dessert base was already overly sweet.
Matcha tonic had concentrated matcha flavour. Earthy and light. Tasted velvety because of the tonic bubbles well mixed with the whisked matcha. Aftertaste was a hint of bitterness. Even it was iced, flavour didn't get diluted. Every sip was an experience. Better than many commercialised matcha signature drinks.
My first impression of the cold brew was small. Unexpectedly, it was a well balance of acidity, bitterness and sweetness. An aromatic mouthfeel. Not iced but cool. Even a small cup, it's what you need of the day, what you need to pair with the dessert.
A simple cafe with uniqueness and surprises.
