I had never experienced such bad service in a restaurant before and it made me want to explain here, the first time I have written on openrice. I had never experienced such bad service in a restaurant before and it made me want to explain here, the first time I have written on openrice. It happened last week when my friend invited me for dinner for my birthday.

There were two sittings on that night, the early one from 7pm to 9pm and the late one beginning at 9pm. We arrived early, at 6:30pm and I was looking forward to a wonderful night with my best friend.

This restaurant provides a list of five or six types of oyster on special offer, i.e. buy one get one free. We ordered some on special offer and two more French oysters at normal prices. While we were tasting those oysters, they revised the menu and put those French oysters on the special offer list. As a customer, what do you think we would/should do? Of course, we told the lady who owned the shop that while we enjoyed the buy one get one offer, we understood that when we ordered those oysters they were to be served at normal prices. We were just doing what a normal client should ask. However, she said, “There are other tables where the same oysters were ordered, but no one raised that question! I do not know why you are asking. We can give you two more for free if you want to.” And we said, “Yes, of course.” Well, you know, we were prepared to be refused by the shopkeeper but we could not believe that she could reply with such bad manners to clients. It was as if someone were being sexually harassed in MTR but NO ONE should speak out; and those who do are doing the wrong thing! That is what she meant.

Since we only had two hours for dinner (actually, we arrived at 6:30pm to get more pre-dinner time), we were pushed by ‘that lady’ to drink a whole bottle of wine (whereas we brought it there ourselves, and the pasta and main dishes arrived together with dessert by 9pm. That lady’s attitude was so bad that I was angry even a week later! She also shouted to the waiter to “collect” unfinished dishes from our table while we were waiting for the dessert! Unbelievable!

I expect the price of food should reflect the restaurant’s service. It was absolutely not on the case with this restaurant, as the bill for that night was more than HK$900! Even though the food was ok, where I go for dinner should provide good service for that range of prices. Never ever there again!!
