It was one of those evenings to find a place for a simple dinner after a busy exhausting day again. We walked past the shop, and most seats were vacant at that time. It looked adequate and comfortable enough for a simple dinner. There were quite a lot of choices on the dinner menu and, most importantly, it's not pricey at all. We ordered several dishes to share. First was the squid ink spaghetti with prawn and scallops. The dish was pretty flavorsome. Although the texture of the pasta may not be great, which I do not expect it will be anyway, I think it's quite tasty, at least it's pretty nice already for such price. Nonetheless, I think the squid ink sauce had kind of made thing a bit messy as you'd find your lips stained with the dark squid ink sauce and that isn't a very nice view you'd want to see while dining. There weren't many scallops but they were quite nice, and the prawn was fried nicely. Quite a nice dish in overall despite the messy sauce.
Next was smoked beef linguini in tomato sauce. The beef was thinly sliced and tasty but somehow it felt a little bit like ham, but anyway, it was still nice. But I think the pasta was kind of dry. Not that I want it to be saucy but it just felt like it wasn't enough at all. Despite that, I quite liked the taste of the sauce, it was light, and it included onions and bell peppers, which are always a delight for me.
Another similar dish was the soft-shelled crab linguini in tomato sauce. The pasta wasn't as dry as the previous one this time. The crab was nice, we find it quite a pleasure to eat it. There's one thing I'd like to mention about for the pasta dishes. The cheese on top was not very evenly spread, and it forms into one piece that it's either a whole piece of cheese or not cheese when you eat it. I think the restaurant can improve a bit on this.
Then we had two baked rice. One was the baked seafood rice and the other was a bolognese and tuna rice bake.
The baked seafood rice was quite good. It's saucy and it always makes a baked rice dish even tastier when the rice was briefly fried with egg beforehand. There were also quite a lot of seafood, like mussels, scallops, crab sticks, squid, clams, prawns, etc. This dish was quite a satisfying one. For the bolognese and tuna rice bake, both sauces were okay, but the dish somehow felt kinda plain. The texture of the dish was still great but it wasn't a dish that leaves any deep impression. Last but not least, we added $5 for drinks for two dishes. We ordered one cold ovaltine and the other, a hot coffee. The ovaltine was pretty nice, not bad at all. The coffee was also better than expected. Of course it's not like it's prefect and absolutely great, but at least to me, in such restaurants, it's not bad.
In overall it was kind of pleasurable to dine here for simple dinners. The waiters were very nice too. They may not be like really professional like those in more expensive restaurants but they were nice and friendly enough. As we had many bags with us, they kindly helped us to place our bags to seats next to our table so that we could sit comfortably. They also came forward to help us pass the dishes to one another when we shared the dishes. That was really quite out of my expectation and I'm impressed.
