I have been and still am delighted by pastries and cakes coming from café Causette, and I wanted to try the café itself for more than 2 years but never had the chance before. So I surely had very high expectations before I finally came here.

While I was expecting a small space with few seats I realized how big is the dining room there and with some elegance using French old posters and advertising.

Also, since I've been a customer for their cake they had me in their database which is sometimes appreciated.

Waitresses were very helpful and we had a nice table with large comfortable chairs.
First mistake though, we were 3 and got only 2 paper bags for our masks.

Another thing that was not very impressive is that there was no menu for breakfast and it was impossible to know what were the bakeries and pastries available from the menu.

So you may have, according to your table, to walk until the bakery place.

After ordering, I realized many disappointing points.

First, most of their danish and bread are not bake on the spot and daily made.
The dough for cinammon roll, served sourdough bread, mango danish, where clearly not freshly made and puff pastry dough sometimes still not baked enough.
So none of these 3 items was crusty as I would expect.

The cinnamon roll was the biggest disappointment. It was heavy, tasteless, coarse. Many adjectives that do not match the place nor standard of an institution such as the Mandarin Oriental...

The almond croissant was surely the most valuable item and their Madeleines while having the right taste were lacking almond powder and the homy feeling.
We also got some waffles and here again I felt it was not fresh and the taste was super plain with no vanilla nor anything that would give a kick to it...
Was it because it is dedicated to kid?
The squized juices were luckily fresh enough.
And the bread disappoinlty served with unsalted butter and we had to ask for a salted option...

Bread itself was slightly crusty but the crust didn't stick to the soft part and you can easily guess that it was frozen from the texture and the taste.

Since we wanted brunch style we also ordered a tataki. It was refreshing and satisfying but not up to the standard I expected. Vegetables were pretty plain here again.
French fries were ok, but their color made me think here again they are not homemade... which is quite disappointing for a price that would you a full meal in a fast-food...

Kudo for their coffee blend that was strong enough and not too bitter for me.

The service is nice and staff are attentive but not very organized.
Sometimes we had 3 people surrounding us and each of them served one item. Also, they put everything on the table instead of asking us whether we would prefer all together or start with sweet or salty dishes.
I am also surprised from a place that pretends to mimic a parisian / French place to come with unsalted butter..

In conclusion, surely a place I should better not have expected too much, because I have only seen one unique perspective.

I would still recommend their cakes that are way above the average in Hong Kong, but plenty of better options for bakeries and breakfast.

I'm attaching only one picture so that you understand how deceptive it could be.
