I was getting a facial on Monday, and my facialist told me that she went to an authentic Cheung Chau Mochi shop on Jaffe Road.  She knew it's authentic because she chitchatted with the owner, and he told her that he moved from Cheung Chau to CWB!

I went to Jaffe Road for dinner on Tuesday but was too full from the dessert at the restaurant to try out the mochi, so I stopped by today to check it out!

The shop is a kiosk on Jaffe Road right next to a newly opened Korean fried chicken place.  The Korean fried chix place has a huge line out the door, so it's easy to find the kiosk next to the big line.

The shop is brightly-lit with a refrigerated glass showcase as the store front.  Once you walk up to the store front, the round chubby pieces of mochi are greeting you from the glass case!

I got to the shop around 6 pm, and the mango mochis were already sold out, but no worries, they have other fruit mochis such as durian, golden kiwi, peach, etc.  (The server did list all the fruits for me, I just can't remember all of them)  Other than fruit mochis, they also sell maltesers mochi.

I took a minute to choose what I wanted and decided to get 2 durian mochis and a box of 6 maltesers mochi.

I took the mochis home before I had them because I don't like to eat in the middle of the street, so the mochis might have melted a little during the transportation process of about a half hour.

The durian mochis were soft to the touch.  I cut them open to take a picture of the filling.  The mochi was very soft and chewy.  I hate mochi where the texture resembles gummy candy, and this was definitely not the case here.  The inside of the mochi had a good amount of durian filling it up.  The durian was sweet, rich, and creamy.  I don't know which type durian it was, but it was not the cheap ones from the supermarket because there were no crunchy bits in the durian flesh.

The maltesers mochi had a cocoa powder coating on the outside, which was a little bitter at first bite.  However, after I chewed up the whole mochi, the bitter cocoa powder balanced out the sweetness of the malteser's honeycomb center.  The whole combination with the chewy mochi and crunchy malteser was very interesting.  I wasn't sure about a malteser mochi, but after trying it, I'll probably have it again in the future!  This was definitely developed for chocoholics!

Although I have never tried the original Cheung Chau mochi so I don't have a comparison of the original and the new shop, I still think the mochis at this shop are delicious!  I will definitely come back to try the mango mochis!!
