I was at Hysan Place and I saw that Urban Bakery is doing a collaboration with FabCafe. FabCafe is a cool cafe in Tokyo that I wanted to go last time I was there but then I ran out of time and didn't make it there. Why are they cool? It's not just a cafe but it has a DIY section where you can take your USB memory stick saved designs and use their laser cut machine to make ANYTHING. They even have a 3D printer where you can make your own gummy candy. All that with a cafe that serves kawaii ghost
Anyways .... Urban Bakery in Hysan Place is collaborating with FabCafe in during the Christmas season. They've erected a red little house to display this collaboration. Inside has a cute little display for all the Christmas pastries and where you order. The pastries are all Christmas based. They even have cupcakes! Menu notes that the coffee is using FabCafe's special coffee blend which is interesting to me so I order a cafe latte and a croissantree. Croissantree ($20) was a little icing sugar powdered croissante. Came with a cute napkin with writing on it. I should also note that the plastic fork given to me was also fancy as it was plastic but looked like stainless steel. Sadly, the croissantree was dry and hard as a rock. Inside was a tiny bit of chestnut filling that was alright. Coffee comes in two sizes: 12 oz or 16 oz. I ordered a 12 oz cafe latte ($35). It came with a cute Christmas design that was sprinkled from a stencil. There are apparently different ones as the person next to me had a Santa and his friend had a reindeer. The coffee beans were a FabCafe blend so was very Japanese. That pretty much means weak coffee but at least tastes like coffee. This is how I always feel about Japanese coffee beans in general. It's not bad but not great. It's good for the nonserious coffee drinkers. But for the serious coffee drinkers, they usually give it a pass. If you purchase any food item, you will get a random gift where you can then make your own design and then the staff will use a laser cut machine and laser cut your design on it. Kinda like a mini FabCafe. The gift cannot be chosen. They just randomly give it to you. I got a 3D X'mas ornament. The staff told me that I could only draw my design on the bell and no other spot. They flipped an iPad for me to draw on. Drawing was very limited. I was only given the use of one pen style and nothing else. They didn't have stamps .. nothing. Just one pen style. I drew my sad little tree on my bell and then they took it to a laser cut machine (I forgot to take a photo) and they laser cut my drawing on it. It looked like this after it was laser cut. I punched out the card board and made it into a reindeer with some bell hanging out of it's stomach. Gift was ok but I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't do more with the design aspect. Food was ok. I might return to try the other food items because .... I just love Christmas themed food.
