Long day of work needs to be balanced with friends gathering. After a casual dinner, we went to ZUMA lounge & bar. We actually choose ZUMA lounge & bar on purpose since Michito Kenako, the world-class bartender, came to ZUMA for just 2 nights along with his award-winning cocktails.I didn't really noticed that they also do the cocktail pairing for $225 or 3 cocktails and 3 dishes for $650, orelse we would have came for the food too. First I tried the "Amber Time"This is actually a whiskey based c

This is actually a whiskey based cocktail with a brandy type glassware. The mixture with sauternes is actually very nice. Pronounce whisky and  pronounce sweetness is what I like about this cocktail. There is also a hint of pungent taste to balance the sweetness and I guess it should be the mix with earl grey. The only eerie point is that it was served in a brandy like glassware. People use brandy glassware because they can warm the brandy with their palm to enhance the aromas. However, if the cocktail is served cold, would it be ironic to warm the cocktail? if it is meant to drink like brandy, why should it be chilled? Or Kenako san really wants to serve cold and taste the change as it gets warmer? But anyhow, this whiskey based cocktail taste is truly amazing.

I just want to clarify that I am not smoking a cigar. The "cigar" is actually a crispy roll and the "ash" is actually some salt and sugar that is in black colour and the experience is actually quite interesting!. This cocktail used aged rum with vermouth, earl grey liqueur and coffee beans. I always like the aged rum because it gives additional tertiary flavour and complexity to drinks. This cocktail has a lingering vanilla taste with quite a strong bitter hint on palate. The citrus taste along the edge of the cup gives interesting mix to the cocktail. I also like how Kaneko blend the salt together with the cocktail through this cigar presentation.

Finally, it is their special cocktail menu. Although Kaneko san is leaving on the 19th, I think 3 of the pairing cocktails will still be served until the 31st of Jan. So do grab a chance to have a try.
P.S. I think I just took too much photos and focused too much on how Kaneko san makes the cocktails that the staff actually asked if I was working in a bar.. lol
