I had an utterly disappointing lunch at Kikusan.  I  ordered  the  sushi platter set  knowing  that  there  would  be  4  Kikusan  rolls  that  typically  has  uni  on  top.  When  I  placed  the  order,  the  server  did  not  tell  me  they  were  out  of  uni  today.  If you lack a crucial ingredient in a dish that you are serving you have the responsibility to tell the customer that you lack such an ingredient and also whether or not they would accept any substitutions made. Remember, uni is the standout expensive ingredients that is used in making the kikusan roll. It is not fair to charge a customer the same price for the meal if you are not going to substitute it for something else. When I raised this point with the manager, they said that yes, sorry for not informing you earlier that we are out of uni, but refused initially to rectify the situation. Then after some negotiation, they said they could give me more salmon roe or tuna. Well, it’s not the same as uni, is it? When I contracted the sale of this sushi platter, I expected uni to be there. A valid contract is when there is a meeting of the minds, and I did not agree to being served the platter without a key ingredient. In the end, the manager seemed to find me unreasonable and agreed very reluctantly to give me an extra piece of salmon sushi (again, not the same as uni but I cannot be bothered to argue at this point.) Honestly this is ridiculous and terrible customer service. If you don’t have an ingredient, be honest about it and inform the customer. The failure to disclose that the dish would be altered is unacceptable. As consumers, we need to stand up for our rights and companies like Kikusan need to respect them.
