Been here for quite a few times due to its proximity to my place and the price/cost of the dishes. Matter of fact it is still among the best and most decent western restaurants in the Western district/mid-levels (soho excluded). The attractive discount that comes with the ownership of the membership has often pulled us back again and again for lunch and dinner. Indeed, even without the discount, a very nice lunch menu which charges you for less than $100 is a bargain indeed. My personal favourite

My personal favourite is the soup and salad set which costs $95. Luckily the price has not evaluated since inflation flooded Hong Kong. On this very particular day i was magnetized by the attractive soup of the day (Ministrone) and the daily dessert (Tiramisu), both being my favourites.

The soup was great as it was not only voluminous but also fruitful in content. With chopped onion, carrot, as well as a nice blend of kidney beans and pasta, the soup was a little thick in texture and was heartwarming to drink. Still perfect in a hot spring afternoon.

I was in a hurry to leave so i ordered my drink in advance. The iced tea was alright but it was far worse and tasteless than the aromatic drink at The Safety Stop.

Now this is the bit that bugs me. As i placed my order i stressed on the fact that i had to leave by 1:50. I re-emphasized the need for dishes to be served as soon as they were ready. But what i saw was that my salad was put onto the serving bar and left unintended for minutes until i waved so hard to attract the attention of a waiter kind-hearted enough to serve me my food. I ended up having to eat the thing in continuous forkfuls, which was not enjoyable as having a stomachful of veggies - some under-chewed - is no joke. Matter it hurted me to see and feel the pine nuts, olives, cheese and greens being crushed and stuffed into my mouth in such a high speed. They were too tasty to be wasted like this. With the house dressing nicely blended in with the fresh, crispy garden mix salad, the somewhat sour but refreshing green olives, the nice, soap-like-texture but sweet buffalo cheese slics (thick ones), crunchy pine nuts, as well as the super-yummy garlic bread on top, i felt bad gorging in them way too fast. They deserve better ends than this, and they could have had the waiters(there were three in the shop by then!) moved their butt faster and been more considerate towards a customer in a hurry like me.

Luckily i did not order the Pan-fried garoupa with red bell pepper butter which took nearly 20 minutes to prepare. Heard that the fish was just so-so but the complimenting baked potatoes with cheese was greeet.

Last were the desserts - 50% of the reason why i was at Wilfire but no place else. It turned out to be a huge disappointment as it was nowhere near to the authentic and tasty tiramisu. The cake tasted fishy and felt like a whole loaf of spongecake, layered with a thin dust of cocoa powder and some coffee alternatively, instead of the smooth dessert which i like. There was, of course, no ladyfinger in it. What a shame. Wildfire serves one of the best chocolate pudding in town - and it should be spit on its face for having ruined(or reinterpreted) the classic yet popular dessert!

Would look more closely to the lunch menu and think more than twice before i head in for my lunch again. Sometimes a word as simple as 'tiramisu' can turn out to be quite different from what you might have anticipated..
