Eat Darling Eat is something that peaked my interest. I walked by it one day after work on my way to Log-On. Curious, I went to look at the menu. Apparently, this place did Westernized takes on classic Hong Kong desserts. The restaurant had a pop-culture feel to it. It looked small from the outside but it was bigger than expected. They also had a take away counter for take away treats and coffee and an area where they sold their shop souvenirs. Menu is in English and Chinese. There is a worded d
Menu is in English and Chinese. There is a worded description of what is in the dessert so you know what you're getting into.
Along with desserts, they had savory food as well. But this didn't interest me much. I was much more interested in the desserts.
I chose a pineapple bun icy treat sandwich ($68). It was described as a darling made bun. This was actually a choux craquelin. A very ingenious take on the typical pineapple bun crunchy coating. It it was a pineapple sorbet and pineapple custard cream. The pineapple sorbet was a lovely fresh pineapple taste. Perhaps due to the fact it was so strong, it took over the taste of the pineapple custard cream. There was some candied pineapple and honeycomb on the side and swirled with a circle of just plain frosting. The honeycomb was pretty terrible. Chewy and not crunchy like better made ones. I think it may have been sitting too long?
Overall the dessert was ingenious. I saw the couple next to me order a sweet potato tong shui and that looked inventive as well. I will be back to try out more desserts.
