I took a visiting friend especially to Repulse Bay to catch a bit of the sunset and enjoy the Southside ambience. Picked this restaurant instead of others because my friend was craving Thai food. I thought it would be lovely to try.
To start with the service: I wasn’t convinced that the tables by the window were reserved because the restaurant was pretty empty on a Sunday night. Funny enough one of the two tables remained empty till we finished dinner an hour or so later.
We were told we could not alter the dishes which is fine with me, but I quietly wondered why a dish in the rice/noodle section had no noodles/rice nor could we request to have either added in? Meanwhile the 1/2 empty restaurant had a swarm of staff happily chatting in the kitchen.
With the food: we ordered five dishes. The signature Roti dish had dried chicken on top and a soggy Roti beneath. It looked as if it was a reheat from a lunch leftover. The curry and fried rice were fine. Not really spectacular but staved our hunger. The roasted eggplant salad was one dish that shined.
We were then greeted by a banana pancake which (initially came as an ice cream...wrongly delivered) was delightfully crispy but crisscrossed with chocolate sauce and condensed milk...so much so we could not really tell if there was any banana in there at all.
Overall it was embarrassing to take my friend dining there especially when one young and unaccommodating staff wished us to ‘have a nice life’ at the door! Never again!
