Friends of mine may have heard me say this before, but I miss the Fish Ball Noodles place at Aberdeen so much (山窿謝記魚蛋) and I’ve yet to find another noodle place that is on par. Anyhow, my family was on the island on a Sunday so my Dad suggested going to another famous Fish Ball Noodle place 安利 in Shau Kei Wan. There was a huge line up when we got there and there were 30 tables in front of us. But good thing it’s a noodle shop and people left fairly quickly. We were seated in around 20 minutes. I was surprised by how ‘commericialized’ this place is – there were celebrities’ autographs all over the walls and Japanese on the menu?!
Without thinking I ordered a Fish Ball Rice Noodles 魚蛋河 – and then I realized that everyone around me was eating 切腩魚片撈粗 (Beef Brisket & Fish Cake Slices in Dry Noodles) which I guess is their specialty. Oh well maybe next time -The fishballs were pretty good. Bouncy, not too salty and has a strong fish taste.
-The fish cake slices could have been fried a little bit more though
-The rice noodles were average. I miss the glass-like ones at 謝記! T_T
This bowl was $24 which is pretty cheap. While it was decent I definitely think it’s overhyped. The fishball noodles itself was not worth the special trip nor the line up.. Maybe their 切腩魚片撈粗 would be better.
