Came here on a Monday night and found this newly opened restaurant that looks pretty decent. So my friend and I decided to try it out. The place was very nicely decorated in Japanese decor. Most importantly, it is very clean and bright, you could clearly see how your food is prepared at the half-open kitchen. This is quite important for me as cleanliness is something I value much, especially during desperate times. So we were seated at the sofa seats with quite some space. Other seats were also
So we were seated at the sofa seats with quite some space. Other seats were also quite sparsely situated, customers were not overly squeezed and were seated quite comfortably. I also like the cute kitten chopstick holder they use, it's interesting how everyone has a different one!
So the menu composes of mostly seafood rice bowls and different snacks. Apparently, they are famous for their premium Kaihoudon Seafood rice bowl, different tuna rice bowls and tempura rice bowl. Since it is our first time here, we are just going to order all the signature dishes with tofu salad and a grilled salmon.
The first thing that arrived was the tofu salad. The serving was quite generous and the greens were fresh and crunchy. Quite a nice appetiser to start the meal.
Then comes the two rice bowls - the premium Kaihoudon and the Avocado Sesame Tuna Rice bowl. Each rice bowl comes with a side - grilled egg plant. Also, apparently the rice they use for their 'dons' were plain white rice. So customers were offered some vinegar jelly to mix with the rice. We were also reminded not to add all the jelly all at once. I myself did not add too much jelly as I thought the rice was quite nicely seasoned. But I do appreciate how they cater for customers with different taste preference.
The premium dong was quite big and the seafood was quite plentiful and fresh. I also like the BIGG uni that tastes so fresh and goes so well with the rice. Overall, the blend of texture - softness of Uni, the freshness of crab, saltiness of the salmon roe matches quite well with the rice bowl. I also like how it is not extremely filling and 'ricey' like other seafood dons.
Whereas the Tuna Avo bowl, the fattiness of tuna and softness of the avocado mixes extremely well. Well, it reminds me of our good old times in Hawaii because it tastes quite similar to the famous hawaii poke since the tuna was so fresh and chunky. This is definitely the kind of comfort food I need after a day of work.
Lastly, we were almost finishing our dons, we were also reminded to pour the soup which was served together with the rice into the remaining rice to make a soup-rice. The soup was EXTREMELY yummy! When poured into the premium don, the 'porridge' that it creates was warm and filling. A very satisfying end indeed.
The grilled salmon was also very generous in serving. Topped with such plentiful nori, the salmon taste much more flavourful than itself.
All in all, I really like how the food is served in this restaurant. Will totally come again to try out their other signature: TEMPURA DON! (We saw other customers ordering it and it looks so good!!)
