The decor looks like a roadside restaurant, so I knew this would be good. I was greeted immediately, shown a table and bread arrived within two minutes. Good bread, too -- small slices lightly toasted on one side and still pliable on the other, with your choice of butter, pesto or oil and vinegar on the table. I chose the creamed vegetable soup, a roast beef ciabatta for an appetizer, and lasagna as the entree (the way I judge every Italian restaurant the first time). The creamed vegetable soup has no pieces of vegetable; it's a broth, and it was hot and delicious. Then came the appetizer, slices of roast beef with tomato and a little onion. The bread was the star; I expected it to crumble, and it did not! When the lasagna arrived, I first thought it wouldn't be enough for the entree, but I was wrong: It was enough, and the bechamel sauce was melt-in-your-mouth fantastic, though I thought the noodles were slightly overcooked. I took my time savouring it. I wasn't sure I wanted dessert but asked for the menu again, and when I saw chocolate mousse, I had to try it. It arrived in less than three minutes, and this time, there really needed to be a little larger portion, but the quality was wonderful because of both the consistency of the mousse and with more cocoa, a little darker than I've had in the past. I had to wait for my drink, but the staff kept my water glass full -- efficient without being hovering and very friendly. In all, I was thoroughly pleased, and even the price was reasonable at less than HK$300 for everything. With the demise of Fat Angelo's, I've been looking for a good Italian restaurant. I think I've found it and will return often.
