Meeting up in Shatin and we decided to just eat something from the mall before heading outside. This time we chose Tonkatsu 8. They had tea sets and there was a fare number of people. Boyfriend also said he hadn't had ramen in quite a while.Menu is in English and Chinese and there is a clear photo of the food so you know what to expect. We rarely see Calpis on the menu for set drinks upgrades so we chose that. They don't give you the bottle but poured from a concentrated bottle and diluted down. It was ok as it wasn't too watered down. They also offer cold water so that's a plus.
Boyfriend ordered the Original Tonakatsu Ramen ($58). This came with one slice of char siu and a soft boiled egg. The egg was ok with a nice runny yolk. The char siu was ok as well. The soup, on the other hand, just tasted like a mouthful of MSG with hardly any pork bone flavor.
I ordered the Roasted Pork Salt Flavored Ramen ($58). This came with five slices of char siu and nori. The top two slices of char siu was very good. Moist and tender. The bottom three were terrible and just plain dry and chewy. The soup on the other hand fared better. It was light with a subtle fish taste.
It wasn't that good. You can really taste the MSG plus the char siu quality was inconsistent. Wouldn't be back unless there was no other place to eat.
