It was Mid Autumn and I wanted to treat my coworkers to something other than mooncakes. This is where I discovered AW Patisserie. Located inside Central Market, this place sells creams puffs with interesting flavour combinations. As it was Mid Autumn, they had a limited time only flavour for the holiday. As it was Mid Autumn, they had a limited time only flavour for the holiday. A Lava Salted Egg Yolk Custard Mochi ($54) along with a gift box of 6 varieties for $288. I decided to get the box set.
It came in a very flashy box.
The cream puffs travelled well. They didn't shift around and were all still in tact but the time I got to work. The size of the puffs were a decent size. Not too big and not too small. I would say the palm of my hand.
The Creme Brulee Puff was topped with a marshmallowy puff on top that was flamed so it produce the crunchy sugary crust found on a real creme brulee.
Inside was a rich creamy custard with a heavy vanilla taste.
Black Seasame Mochi had a bit of the sesame cream peaking out on top. The outside was crispy crumb made of black sesame.
Inside was a soft chewy mochi. The black sesame cream was intensely nutty.
Super Rice Sicillian Pistachi Mochi was my favorite. It was topped with nuts.
The pistachio creame was so strong and rich. And inside was another soft squishy mochi.
Okinawa Brown Sugar Boba was the cutest with a little plastic bulb of brown sugar syrup.
The cream was sweet with the taste of brown sugar and there was also a boba found inside.
Bean Curd and Barley was the most interesting flavour. The cream on top was very rich and not sweet at all.
Inside the cream here was mixed with bits of barley. It oddly felt healthy.
Lava Salted Egg Yolk Custard Mochi was the time limited puff. This was the most interesting flavour. It was topped with salty crumbly bits of egg yolk.
The inside cream was very rich and there was a layer of molten lava custard that was also salty. I loved this combination of sweet and salty.
Very interesting flavours used here that were not the norm. Flavours that did work and went very well together. Each puff was generously filled and the exterior was still a bit crunchy. Would definitely be back to try other flavours.
