Passed by Suzuki Café - one of the places I frequented years ago for the cakes - and stopped by for dinner.
The service was appalling; not only was the response to requests slow (I only asked for a glass of water!), the long wait for the food was bordering on the unreasonable (20-25 minutes), the staff were repeatedly mixing up my orders with other patrons' - they even came with a wrong bill minutes after I settled mine!
Ordered a thin-crusted pizza with toppings of shrimp, cherry shrimp, mango and wasabi; frankly these did not go well at all. I did recall their soft shell crab pizza was pretty good; this was one big disappointment. The cakes I used to like so much were nowhere to be seen, instead I settled for a green tea chiffon cake. The cake was dry and rough to the palate; the sides of red bean paste and strawberries in jam did little to salvage the sawdust-like taste.
The least disappointing item turned out to be the house blend coffee which came in a delicate purple porcelain set. The taste was passable, though it had a faintly burnt scent, possibly because not enough attention was paid to the siphoning process.
Why did I like the place so much a few years ago? Did I outgrow it? Or did standards fall deplorably?
