I tried this restaurant when they first opened and found the food quality to be quite good, maybe just below the ones in Shanghai. (I've been to their restaurants in Shanghai a few times). Came here yesterday again, surprisingly didn't have to wait for a seat at 7pm (although by the time we left around 8 the line was quite long already). However, I am sad to say that the food quality has dropped significantly since the last time I came. We ordered:馬蘭頭: chopped very finely, but a bit dry. fel
However, I am sad to say that the food quality has dropped significantly since the last time I came. We ordered:
馬蘭頭: chopped very finely, but a bit dry. felt like a big batch was chopped in the morning and served at night.
小籠包: this was ok, skin is relatively thick as the way it's done in shanghai (which I prefer), but the meat inside wasn't that 鮮味. but the big disappointment came with the small dish with ginger slices that u put the vinegar in. the ginger slices were cut very finely (good) but they only gave u about 8 strands?? how expensive is ginger?? also the vinegar was the brown kind but I think they mixed it with regular clear rice vinegar which means it's only sour, not much taste. i prefer the darker and more tasty 鎮江醋 which they use in the shanghai shops.
蔥油伴麵: this was the biggest disappointment. noodles used was shanghai noodles instead of 拉麵, so texture was too soft. they also did not deep fry the 蔥 which is the most essential highlight of the dish.
菜肉包: standard fare, the skin a bit thick
高力豆沙: another big disappointment. the oil used to deep fry was not hot enough, so it was fried too long and caused the skin to absorb too much oil.
next time I would rather go to 翡翠 instead...their noodles are much better and their 高力豆沙 is one of the best that I've had. I just hope they don't deteriorate in quality as well....
