This is one of those overhyped dessert places that inevitably lead to disappointment--unless it is, say, Via Tokyo, whose green tea soft serve has never failed to meet expectations. I came here the first time in early May, and then again in the end of May. The first time round I was really impressed with their tofu soft serve because it had such a strong beany flavor to it. The whole dessert was mild, as ice shavings naturally are, yet the combination of slightly sweetened, soft red beans and creamy tofu ice cream was just so perfect.

On my second visit on this day, I ordered the same desserts--tofu ice shavings ($58) and their signature matcha waffle set ($78). Although on both occasions the shop was nearly empty (on a weekend afternoon!), we were made to order two desserts (one per guest) as it was allegedly a "requirement". Unfortunately, they updated their utensils and portion sizes were deliberately controlled and reduced (this was what a waiting staff had told me). This time round, the tofu soft serve was much smaller in size. The matcha jelly tastes bitter and chewy, which I liked, but there was way too much ice for the amount of ice cream we were served.

The waffles smelled amazingly buttery and eggy, and thanks to the abundance of green tea powder sprinkled all over them, smelled of green tea goodness, too. But it didn't taste as strong as it smelled, and the amount of green tea ice cream served was honestly very sad--hardly a spoonful. The green tea ice cream melted quickly, and tasted nowhere close to the best ones in Hong Kong. This, for $78 and on the Kowloon side (and cash only!), was totally overpriced for me.

All in all, I'd say the desserts here are delightful, but there has obviously been an inconsistency in quality based on my experiences. Service was somewhat sloppy, too. So if you come with high expectations, you run a risk of being disappointed.
