I am from the Indian subcontinent and I have been scouting for good places that serve hearty indian meals. One of my friends and also a lot of reviews on Openrice made me feel that I should visit this restaurant. I usually only write a review on Openrice only when I feel a place is extremely good or horrible. Sadly, this place offers probably the worst Indian meal AND terrible service. Indians believe that guests are like God. Well, definitely not here. I came in during lunch time @ 1215 and the restaurant was quite empty. I was by myself so I was offered a table right at the corner. I didn't have any preference so I sat there. Ordered Egg curry from their set lunch (which is relatively cheap for HK standards but probably because their service and food is so poor!) only to be told that they haven't really made egg curry today - sp why bother to even put it on the menu?? I changed it to mutter paneer. I was served Papad which is stale and soft - definitely no where close to being freshly fried or even fried on the same day! THen came my milk tea - it was lipton tea bag (not authentic indian milk tea) AND it was lukewarm. I didn't mind - well, i was only pay 4X HKD for a meal in CWB so I shouldn't really complain!
WHen I got my meal and took the first bite of the paneer- i could tell this was probably cooked a day ago and poorly reheated in the microwave. Same with the appetizer that was hard as rock and cold in the middle but hot from the outside - you know you are being served microwaved food!
STILL DID NOT MIND. Finally, there was a group of people who entered and were looking for a table. I was asked to get up from my table and move to another one. I wasn't given a choice - I was just asked point blank to do so. Now, in Indian culture you CANNOT make someone get up in the middle of their meal. This is considered utterly disrespectful and these people managed to do that. Needless to say, I did not bother eating my meal, got up, paid the bill and stormed off. I can assure you I will be warning all my friends of this place. They are definitely going to lose a few customers due to this reckless attitude.
