Lunch time – I did not have Bafang Yunji in mind, but seeing as there was almost no queue it was a one time opportunity that one could not miss. Every time I pass by this place, it is always packed. I originally set out to have Boiled Vegetable Dumplings, but they were sold out. So instead I had panfried ones. Along with the set I ordered something new: Tapioca Soymilk (珍珠豆漿). The panfried vegetable dumplings were dry. Unlike boiled dumplings, there was not enough juice from the filling to make the dumpling skin soft and moist. Soy sauce could be used, but its saltiness quickly masked the original vegetable taste, which was not strong to begin with.
As for the drink, it was a good try. Tapioca mixed with soymilk instead of tea was different, but I still prefer bubble teas. I usually find that there is an aftertaste to soymilk. Perhaps the taste of beans and starch was a little too much.
