I haven't had Shanghai/Beijing cuisine in Modern China restaurant for years as there are so many more options nowadays. Passing by seeing their afternoon tea set options were in good combo and in reasonable price, we decided to stop by. We ordered noodle soup with green vegetables serving with Mala cold noodle and noodle soup with Mandarin Fish & pickled vegetables serving with Jellyfish with sesame oil. We ordered noodle soup with green vegetables serving with Mala cold noodle and noodle soup with Mandarin Fish & pickled vegetables serving with Jellyfish with sesame oil. Meal sets included drinks and we requested ice lemon tea and hot black coffee. Additionally, we ordered one portion of their Beijing dumplings from their main menu.
Mala cold noodle and jellyfish with sesame oil were firstly served. Mala cold noodle was very flavourful. Better mix before consume for balance and extra flavour. Couple shredded chicken and cucumber were also served alongside which gave extra texture. A hint of spiciness enough to bring little numbness to your lips. Not bad!
Jellyfish was chewy but in right length so that easy to eat. It was topped with spring onion that brought some freshness apart from the strong sesame oil taste. Nothing special.
Green vegetables noodle was served in an enormous bowl. Don't worry, right amount of noodle was served😂 Don't freak out by the pot. Soup was boiling hot and savoury. Loaded with vegetables and few mushroom pieces. Noodle was soft. Not bad.
Noodle soup with Mandarin Fish & pickled vegetables was pretty spicy (for a non-spicy eater). It served three big pieces of fish fillet. Fish was cooked just right, not fishy at all. It was loaded with pickled vegetables which balanced out the spiciness. Noodle was soft. Overall, not bad.
Beijing dumplings were in eight pieces which personally found it generous especially they were pretty big. Wrapped was in right thickness while stuffing was more in a meaty juicy side with visible Chinese cabbages.
For drinks, ice lemon tea was alright. However, coffee was pretty bad that it's possibly a mistake to order coffee in a Shanghai/Beijing cuisine restaurant 😂. Coffee was no coffee flavour just bitterness. It was served in room temperature. Anyway, I wasn't come for their drinks, so never mind.
In general, nothing special. Afternoon tea sets price were pretty affordable and worth the portion.
