I serve affogato in Vancouver, Canada. The ice cream I use is real Italian gelato vanilla bean, and the espresso shot I serve, of course is illy espresso. Therefore, I am curious about how Haagen Dazs version would taste like. TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT!First of all, the espresso shot was not really a shot, instead, it was more like an 8oz americano served in a mini glass jar. First of all, the espresso shot was not really a shot, instead, it was more like an 8oz americano served in a mini glass jar. The "shot" would turned out to be weak, watered down version of a proper espresso shot, drowning the single scoop of vanilla ice cream <SIGH>! After the affogato, I ordered a regular iced coffee. First sip, my last sip. SOUR ! I have never tasted sour illy coffee in my life, except this one time when my illy sales rep brought me a vintage illy glass jar dated back in the 80's, supposed to be air sealed. We opened it up (no hissing of course), and pulled a shot for fun with my La Marzocco FB70. That taste, of old wooden furniture sourness, still tasted better than the iced coffee I was served at Haagen Dazs. What a waste of illy beans (if they were really brewing illy? I doubt it!).
