Queen’s café represents is one of the older “soy sauce Western cuisine” restaurants, with its original store opened in 1952. I‘ve always been a fan of the one in Festi, so when I heard that they have a branch opened in Causeway bay, I couldn’t wait to come try it. There are currently 5 branches in total and one of them is in Beijing!

As soon as you walk in, the nostalgia décor immediately takes you back a few decades, I could almost hear the legendary “Shanghai Night” song playing in my head; slow decorative celling fan disrupting the dim lighting in the dining room, giving an illusion of flickering candle lights. There is plenty of space between tables/ booths for privacy; and it was a quite night so it felt even more romantic! I loved it already as soon as I step foot in the door.

I was very happy to see that they have most of the same items from the Festi store, so we got a few familiar items for dinner. First of all their signature Borscht soup, the consistency is much thicker than I remembered, also richer in flavor; this version is not spicy at all, so I needed a little bit of white pepper, it was perfect. I would say they serve one of the best Borscht soup in Hong Kong.

Mains were Sirloin steak and baked Spaghetti Bolognese; I asked for 60% as the temperature of my steak, and it was spot on! Gravy sauce which comes on the side was a pleasant surprise! Heavy in beef flavor, almost like a thickened beef au jus, but the steak was well marinated on its own already. Potato wedges were seasoned well, hot and crispy too.

Baked Spaghetti Bolognese was served in a stainless steel container, and it was boiling hot when it was served to us! I love my food served hot~ the taste is quite different from the one served in Festi’s branch; this one tasted more like homemade spaghetti Bolognese, with the kind of pre-made sauce that we can buy from grocery stores. It was a slight disappointment that it is different from the taste I was expecting, however, having that said, it was still tasty.

Queen’s café has always been one of my favorite soy sauce western style restaurants, there’s something comforting about this cuisine to me. I am so relived to know this branch in Causeway bay is just as good; another great dinner option in a convenient location.
