We reached Gloucester Road at around 5pm and was shocked by the long queue. The friendly assistant approached us to assure us that there will be a place for us in a short while.
The wait was long but after 20 minutes, we were ushered to a table. The decoration of the restaurant is simple but brings out the ambience. The fragrance of the chicken rice lingers in the air and tickled our taste bud to savour it. We placed our order for Hainan Chicken Rice, Fried Carrot Cake and Bak Kut Teh.
The dishes came in less than 10 minutes. The chicken rice was well-prepared and without any grain of rice that is uncooked. The rice smoothen our throats as we swallow it. The taste of the rice lingers on our taste bud even after a while. The rice was worth eating on its own. The taste of the chicken is a bit saltish for Singaporeans like us. However, the meat was tender and fresh.
The Bak Kut Teh came next. Its appearance is not that appealing but when you first tasted it, the feeling was like you had tasted the best food in the world. The taste of the herbs was well concocted for the soup. It was the effort of the chef to not add any MSG to the soup to retain its original taste. My wife mentioned casually that it was better than the Bak Kut Teh that can be found at Balestier Road. I seconded her opinion.
I will definitely come back to this restaurant again during my 3 days in Hong Kong. Keep up the good food standard!
