I called at noon to make a reservation for 4:30. No luck, i asked if there were seating for walk-ins, girl over the phone said you can try. Someone had booked a table at 4:45, and they were holding it for 15 minutes. Finally, the first couple sat down at 5pm, but only after the late group showed up right at 5:00 begging for her table. The waitress gave in. They had to share a table (first couple and late comers) because someone else sitting outside decided they wanted to come in to sit instead and took the reserved table.
Then after, late comers saw someone leave from a small table and asked to switch. Next in line was us, and we were asked if we wanted to share to the table (with the first couple). After over 45 minutes of waiting, I don't care.
But someone near us left, another small table open. After we ordered we switched.
So apparently, its a fad at this place for people to switch between tables. This was dessert menu. there's another menu for drinks, $38 each, for tea $60 each, and for hot food (salads and pasta). A club sandwich here is $95, omelette of the day was $75. I would rather go somewhere else. this is the matcha soul. its for chrysanthemum shreddings on top, made with soy milk and matcha and raisins at the bottom. it wouldn't call it refreshing, its just rather light on the palette. and a very small shot. or like 3 shots then u're done. this was taken when we had to share the table with first couple. now we got our own table woohoo.
[ the matcha lava cake! a bit outrageous for $78, but i find it pretty good, taste-wise. someone else mentioned they feel ripped off, saying its cooked by newbies. i wouldn't disagree. the ice cream was plain and boring. but the matcha filling was lovable. the appearance can be improved though, rather than seeing bubbles on the exterior.
at least they made an effort to glamourize it with cookie crumbs and matcha powder. After long waiting, finally came the brownie. had to save the ice cream before it evaporates! pot was sizzling away and brownie is being cooked. the way its served is new and creative, but the brownie became dry and stuck to the pot (even if provided with green tea sauce, top right tea cup). macadamian nuts were part of the brownie. i would recommend this for the hype, not for the taste or flavour. the lava cake had stronger flavour.
still hungry, so our 3rd dessert. apple cake. this took a while too, since they heat it up before serving. it was warm and moist with apple slices on top... but why matcha powder?
im interested in trying the cheesecake next time.
a pair of boys behind us came for salad and pasta.. im kind of puzzled lol
overall, wait time was ridiculous. as mentioend in other postings, they have no system for wait time, no #, no ticket. you just stand.. and wait. take it or leave it kinda thing. and because booking is allowed, you should really really really make use of that system.
menu said they serve tea set for $300. yes or no?
