Eating in Central, we always end up choosing either before or after the busy lunch crowd. That is probably why we ended up here. 金華燒臘大王 (English name Kam Wah) is your every day Hong Kong style roast meat restaurant. It's been here forever and if you come during lunch hour, it's busy. And so we arrived during afternoon tea time. The lunch crowd had gone back to work an it was quiet. The restaurant isn't very big. They seemed to be very proud of their char siu as big photos of it were on every table.

The menu was also mostly char siu. Menu in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge. When we were there, we could choose from the afternoon tea menu which was loads cheaper than the lunch one. You can also add on snacks for a small cost but those were in Chinese only. Sets come with a basic hot drink.

Boyfriend had the char siu with rice ($42) and added a fried egg for $5. The portion was small! It was all in a small bowl. There was only 4 slices of char siu. There was also a choi sum. The fried egg was bigger than the bowl! The egg was quite good and the yolk was runny. The char siu was pretty delicious.  A very old style char siu that wasn't over glazed. The meat was tender and juicy.

I had a char siu and scrambled egg sandwich ($35). They didn't seem to have an option for toasted so the bread was soft. It did taste good though. The char siu was delicious and the egg wasn't over cooked. They also spread butter and mayo as well which was an interesting combination I've never had.

Portions was pretty small and come to think of it .. .a bit expensive compared to other places that offer the same thing durin tea time. The char siu was delicious but not really sure if we'd be back.
