The Diner has an unfortunate problem - good food, but bad service. I have gone back a few times, but I am at the tipping point where the negatives outweigh the positive. I don't know if the abysmal service is the fault of the staff, or the owner, who fails to higher enough staff - putting too much work on those who are there. I suspect it's a combination of both. I usually try not to criticise wait staff, because I know it's a tough job. That said, outside of being extremely slow, the staff show little or no emotion - to the point where I feel uncomfortable asking for something. This is certainly not the real American diner experience, where people are walking around to make sure your coffee cup is full. As others have mentioned, I fail to see the value in bottomless coffee when it's so difficult to get a re-fill.
The owner needs to take a serious look at the quality and quantity of staff. I watched two people walk out today because they weren't waited on and listened to the table beside me say this was their first and last time at the restaurant.
With a few fixes, this place could be a place I'd look forward to visiting. But for now, the diner's charm has quickly faded.
