Came here for a 'yum cha' lunch with mom and dad on a sunday.restaurant is crowded when we came but managed to find a table very quickly on the 2nd floor.creamed corn garoupa fillet on rice: garoupa was fresh and flaky, had a thin layer of batter that was freshly deep-fried. creamed corn is of just-right consistency, neither gloppy nor water-thin. creamed corn garoupa fillet on rice: garoupa was fresh and flaky, had a thin layer of batter that was freshly deep-fried. creamed corn is of just-right consistency, neither gloppy nor water-thin.
BBQ pork bun 'char siu bao': 1 order = 3 pieces. piping hot filling, sweet thick char siu sauce, soft bun that wasn't too thick. pork was stringy, quite lean. nice! 4.5 out of 5 (because it's not exceptionally unforgettable)
Steamed beef tripe: beef tripe is white as snow and steaming hot when served. came with a clear broth that had a very subtle flavor. the tripe however was a bit too chewy or maybe i'm just not used to eating beef tripe.
shrimp dumplings 蝦餃: the skin is oh-so-tender and quite thin - not a big glob of starch. big bites of fresh shrimp filling!
Vegetarian dumplings 'so gau': their filling was pure vegetable, which is a very pleasant surprise - no tofu bits nor vermicelli, just sauteed diced pak choi and delicately minced shitake mushroom. crystalline skin is soft yet had a nice bite to it. I give it a full 5 out of 5!
Melting lava buns 'lau sar bao': the custard filling was quite runny, it bursted out from my mom's mouth right when she bit into it! nice egg yolk-y flavor and not overly sweet.
deep-fried glutinous rice dumplings 鹹水餃: my frist time eating this - really liked the contrasting crunchiness with the gooey inside layer!!! had minced pork and mushroom filling which was not as salty as i expected - good.
shrimp cheong fen 腸粉: Chopped pieces of shrimp in slippery, paper-thin layers of cheong fen. it was steamed (not panfried); accompanied with light soy sauce.
Chicken feet 鳳爪: looked good, didn't eat any. mom liked it. looked very artificially red colored.
deep fried spring rolls 春捲: liked the filling: a great variety of minced pork, diced carrots, water chestnuts and shitake mushroom. it came nice and hot; think it was just fried.
pretty good place for yum cha; quite satisfied and have no complaints! prices are very reasonable too (this IS central!) - for all the stuff we ordered the bill came to roughly $550.
