As a Hongkonger, no doubt you must have known well what Kongish assorted noodle is, because many of you might be just like me when growing up with limited pocket money. In order to get a satisfying feeling of satiety and large variety of different ingredients within an affordable price range, assorted noodle also known as 'Che Chai Min' would ever be the best choice. I could have this popular street food three to four times a week as lunch meals and sometimes even for the dinners. Those were the days back to 70 to 80's. After leaving from the school and immersing myself into an extremely intensive working society, also with the advance of economic capacity, I have been not so often to have assorted noodle especially switching to long stay in UK afterward. I would say that most Hongkongers have treated such delicious local food as part of our important childhood memory also Hong Kong Culture.
By occasion, I catched up with my good friends to retrieve this unforgettable Kongish flavour over again at the eatery called 'Che Chai Min Family' in Sheung Wan. My favourite combination of ingredients is alway the yellow raw noodle with curry fish balls, marinated chicken wings & tips and feet whereas my friends preferred rice noodles with curry turnips, pork skin and pork blood. Because of store-owner specially recommended their signature dishes, i.e. Homemade spicy sauced squid as well as Sichuan spicy pork colons, and also our compliment to their food and hospitality, we finally included them as additional side dishes. I much wonder if it would be too much for us but we ended up finishing them off.
Che Chai Min Family, nice staff and good food. Although it is just a small shop that serves with 8 tables only, the staff enabled the tidiness of restaurant with a high degree of hygiene standards that could be observed from the cleanliness of the floor, tables and chairs as well as condiment containers.
Well ! Apparently my friends and I were hungry. But if it is really a matter of starvation that would never be sufficient to drive me to jot notes here for such ultimate dining experience. I highly recommend Che Chai Min Family, located at Shop 3-7 Wing Kut Street Sheung Wan.
