Recently, a number of solo dining yakiniku restaurants have sprouted up. One is even a huge chain from Japan. Though we do go to that one a lot, we like to try out the competition. Some have been a bit meh but some have surprised us to be far better than our tried and true. As boyfriend goes to the San Po Kong area a lot, he noticed a new place called 一韓燒 (English name: 1 Korean Barbecue) that is located inside Mikiki Mall. We decided to give it a try one evening so I headed over to his residential area.

When we got there, there was already a small group of people waiting to go in. The place filled up quickly.

The place is spacious with one wall fit for solo dining with a grill in front of you. However, unlike all the other places that do this same type of thing, this place has more tables so groups of 2 to 4 can dine together without much blocakge. I found this also better for families with small children as they won't be near a hot grill and won't easily be hurt.

They have several sauces on the side from Korean BBQ sauce to Japanese BBQ sauce to the basic salt and pepper.

As we were two of us, they placed us at a table where we shared a grill. Eating untensils were in a drawer under the countertop.

Menu is in English and Chinese. Like many, they offer various sets where prices are dependent on the type of meat and how many grams you want. Sets include a miso soup, rice, appetizer or salad. They also have a la carte if you want to add more meat. Ordering is done by scanning the QR code and paying on your way out. The QR code ordering format is also in bilingual and easy to operate.

There is a 30% discount on special drinks. Other drinks are half price. They  don't state this one the menu but it's listed as such on the QR code menu.

As there was a drink discount, we ordered some drinks. Boyfriend had a Blue  Curacao Muscat Soda ($30.80 with discount, originally $44). It was surprising it came out looking like this! True Korean style! The drink was sweet and sugary. A very boyfriend approved drink.

I ordered the Kyoho Calpis ($21 with discount, originally $30). I chose to go strawless and they provided a $1 discount. That's pretty good incentive to get people to go strawless. The drink was good. Not too sweet but lots of grape taste.

What further pleased me about this place was they offer a keto diet set. Delicious and Keep Fit Set 1 ($67 for 200g).  Though I'm not on the keto diet, I always find these places provide you with so much rice, I can never finish. I hate wasting food so this is an excellent alternative to that. I don't get a bowl of rice. Instead it comes with lettuce.

The meat is Iberico pork belly. And for 200g, that was a lot so there is no worry you won't be full.  Quality was good and they even provide the skin for those that like to chew on things.

I chose a salad and instead of appetizer. The greens were fresh. The dressing was a sesame dressing that coated everything well.

There was also a plate of onion, garlic, kimchi, green chili with bolognese. Those were condiments for the lettuce wraps.

The lettuce was fresh and there was enough to wrap enough for the portion of meat provided.

There was also a miso soup that was rich with bits of seaweed and tofu bits.

Boyfriend had the Double Taste Set 11 ($190 for 200g). The meat was Hokkaido Kuroge Wagyu Chuck and Wagyu Cube Rolls Cap and you don't get to choose the portion size.

The cube rolls cap was absolutely fantastic. I think from everything we ordered, this was the best. Full of beef flavour and melted in your mouth.

The chuck had a good amount of marblization. Very tender even when over cooked.

The appetizer was spicy kombu, kimchi and spicy stewed potatoes. Typical Korean banchan.

We also shared some a la carte items. This is the Beef Tongue ($42 for 100g). Very thinly cut but wasn't chewy even after grilling it forever.

The Beef Short Rib ($62 for  100g) were really good. Not too fat but still tender enough after grilling.

Like many people surrounding us, we ended with dessert. This is the Matcha Red Bean Snowflake ($38). A small little bowl enough for one. There was a container of matcha syrup to pour over it, to give it extra flavour. It wasn't too sweet and rich in matcha taste. The ice cream was smooth. The shaved ice was light and fluffy and taste like milk.

The other dessert was Cream and Mango Croffle ($38).  We added $10 for ice cream and chose mango because hey ... this is mango, right? The croffle was crisp. They didn't skimp on the sauce. Plenty of mango syrup and chocolate sauce. Soft mango bits were included as well.

Definitely different than the other competitors. The quality of food was good. Service was fast. Ordering was easy. They also offer dessert and drinks that their competition doesn't offer. Seating was also comfortable and definitely good for groups.
