Finding this restaurant in a dull looking office building is reminiscent of looking for a place to eat in an office building in Japan: reminds me of exploring Tokyo and Osaka!

I was told HokaHoka was popular with the Japanese community in Hong Kong so I just had to give this a try when my friend told me about it.

Having entered, they sat us near the kitchen, which seemed to be clean, and very organised.

The section I was sat in was lit by warm fluorescent lights, and had an antique telephone to help add to that rustic “Japanese cafe” feel.

Me and my friend ordered a couple of bento boxes to see what the kitchen would come up with.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that we were served our meals within 5 minutes of ordering. Despite this fast service (meaning most items were probably pre-cooked/made before service), food came out hot, and everything was very good by both “fast food” and “made to order” standards. Fresh sashimi (they didn’t give salmon but yellowtail- nice!!), hot crispy tempura with a thin batter, perfectly seasoned Japanese omelette, tasty meat and grilled fish, this gave me a temporary cure to my travel withdrawal symptoms!

The restaurant has a huge and diverse menu for both sets and a la carte, and they also offer daily specials.

In the words of Terminator: “I’ll be back!”
