As an American immigrant that is use to having Mexican food options everywhere I know that eating great Mexican is rare in Asia.

Many times I have craved Mexican food while in Hong Kong (or Macau). I usually cook my own in Tuen Mun, but sometimes I am lazy and need it prepared for me. My hopes are set high and then I am really disappointed.

Not this time. Cali-Mex is exactly what I needed. Their menu is very very affordable. The food quality is great. Their portions are more than generous. This isn't an Asian attempt at Mexican food. It is Mexican food in Asia.

The menu layout is very simple. Choose your style first: quesadilla, soft or hard (3) tacos, burrito, burrito bowl, salad, or nachos. Choose your meat option...more choices than American Chipotle. Beef, chicken, pork, fish, or vegetarian. There several subcategories of each meat or veg choice. Then you choose what kind of beans or salsa you want. They have additional choices while they assemble your meal.

The dining area (upstairs) is tidy. It was not busy when I went on a Wednesday at 5pm. The music they play is loud. If you are trying to have a conversation you simply can't. If you are an English speaker you will realize the tracks could not be played on American radio due to vulgar/offensive content. (It was loud rap with a lot of "F-words" and "N-words."

I enjoyed the meal. I could afford it. I recommend it. I will come back.
