798 was somewhere that I read about in U Magazine. For brunch not dinner tho.I rarely have people shop at Times Square. However this week I need to get a gift for an aus friend who's marrying. I asked an ex-manager to join me at Times Square LC and planned to go to 798 after, but we had to go to sogo to get the gift. My ex-mgr was thirsty and interested in dessert, and i needed dinner, so we walked back to 798.First up we wanted a drink. Too bad we walked ino a bar but my ex-mgr didn't wanted to
I rarely have people shop at Times Square. However this week I need to get a gift for an aus friend who's marrying. I asked an ex-manager to join me at Times Square LC and planned to go to 798 after, but we had to go to sogo to get the gift. My ex-mgr was thirsty and interested in dessert, and i needed dinner, so we walked back to 798.
First up we wanted a drink. Too bad we walked ino a bar but my ex-mgr didn't wanted to drink, so I ordered two Cranberry juices instead. Okay that was starting off on the wrong foot - we were served two lukewarm glasses of what my ex-mgr called "snapple" (as her former audit trainee, I "concurred"). Like Rice Paper needs to change its beef supplier, 798 needs to change its juice supplier.
But the rest of the dinner more than made up for the pathetic juice. I ordered a Camembert to share for starters. Owwwww it was tasty...my ex-mgr was tucking in nicely, all the while mumbling how this is going to ruin her chances to slim down before work annual dinner in november. Particularly since she's stationed in prc and there's no cheese......i can feel the horns growing out of the side of my head.
Then it's the 8oz prime rib, and it was just for me. it wasn't too bad for $205. not the best, but since it's us beef it's a relief from the aussie steak i'm having weekly at outback.
Then came the Banoffi Pie. the dishes were coming in 3 mins at a time it felt faster than canteen! Uwww it was creamy, and superbly complemented by the glazed banana. My ex-mgr almost wanted to lick her plate, and i did the demon sign by sticking two fingers on the top of my head.
This isn't everyday food, but this location's great for friday meet-ups. Well, the place is loud (that's what my current colleagues said after), tho at that night I was able to get a quiet table.
