We were told that these soups are all prepared up front so that it was brought to us in no time . The clear soup is served really hot. It's clear and light, filled with different healthy ingredients in Chinese culture. Perfectly warm for the chilly weather

Wheat gluten stew with brown sauce $78

The serving from the restaurant is  quite generous. You sometimes only get half of the amount at another restaurant. The flavour is a bit sweet which is not what we are familiar with in Shanghainese cuisine.

The wheat gluten is a lot bigger than usual and not in cube shape, it's also a lot more softer than doesn't have that hardened texture. I am not sure if they are the same thing or if this is a soy based product. I still prefer this dish with a lighter taste afterall.

Rice with Chanterelle in Casserole $108

I am a bit excited about this dish which is a vegetarian version of Bo J rice. The toppings consists of a mix of mushroom and fungus, it's crunchy and very earthy from all those mushrooms. Just like any traditional Bo J Rice, some sweet soya sauce is provided for you to pour that all  over the rice.

The rice gets crunchier at the bottom of the casserole from the remaining heat from the pot, just like the traditional kind of Bo J Rice. The rice is flavourful with the taste from the mushroom and soya sauce.

Sauteed sugar pea shoot with egg white and black fungus $98
This next dish is a very basic one with just veggies, egg white, and crunchy fungus. Simple straight up fibre healthy goodness that we all should eat.

Bean curd dumpling $118
This is probably the most interesting dish from the menu which is dumplings made with tofu. The tofu is smooth and filled with some mixed mushroom in the middle, and there are also some lettuce slices at the bottom. The taste is light just like other dishes, which makes me feel like I am so much healthier after this meal!
For $118, it's a bit pricey but I guess most of the cost goes to the skillful cooking technique from the chef

Glutinous rice ball in wine soup $42
Lastly, we have ordered a dessert soup that is a traditional Shanghainese glutinous ball swimming in a light sour alcoholic soup. In this dish, the alcoholic taste is light and not as sour as other restaurants, yet the floral taste is much stronger. So, it's just a slightly different version to this dessert soup but still delicious to me.

It's a good alternative to have a vegetarian meal from time to time and this renown restaurant is a very accessible go-to in my point of view.
