Hidden at the end of St Francis Street, J'aime bien Patisserie is an artsy dessert boutique. The shop owner definitely has a fascinating story to tell about why she opened this cafe. Hidden at the end of St Francis Street, J'aime bien Patisserie is an artsy dessert boutique. The shop owner definitely has a fascinating story to tell about why she opened this cafe. From what I read in the newspaper clipping display, she used to be an auditor, gave up her job to chase her dream and went to France to study the Le Cordon Bleu dessert course. She came back to Hong Kong and started this cafe. I always like little shops/restaurants/cafes with a real story behind.

Other than a paper menu, the owner also made a display of what dessert is available for the day with felt. Those 3-D felt display desserts are very attractive indeed! And the owner was so friendly in explaining all the 6 desserts to me, how they are made and taste. Very close to a fine dining experience.

This Fig Fig World, which is my second choice (first choice was sold out), is composed of fig jelly, plain mousse, and sponge cake, with maple oat crisp on top. The sweetness of the maple oat crisp on top was balanced by the oat, so that it would not be over sweet to eat. The fig jelly layer was a bit sour but delicious to eat on its own, so I ate the cake vertically to mix it with the plain mousse. The cake base was another delicious piece of pastry which you could enjoy on its own.

I would definitely like to visit this hearty and friendly cake boutique again to try out other desserts!
