Heytea (喜茶) is a popular tea drink  chain from China.  With people queuing hours for a drink, it started to expand to Singapore and now Hong Kong. With a start in Shatin, it formed long queues opening  weekend, with people in line for hours. Then it opened  subsequent branches in Causeway Bay's Times Square and Hysan Place. Boyfriend and I noticed there was only 3 people in line one a Saturday afternoon. So, we decided to give it a try. There is an app that you can use to order ahead of time but we just want to note: it is only available for iPhone. If you own an  Android, like I do, it is not available.  It should also be known that boyfriend did have an iPhone and when he went to download this app, it said it was not available in his region. At first he thought he had switched it to US settings as sometimes he does to purchase things, but when he checked the country setting for his phone was Hong Kong. Is this app not available to people in Hong Kong? Is the app only available for people in China? The other option is to use Wechat to order. Yeah ... we're not going to use Wechat so we stood in line.

The shop has a pick up window for ice cream and another one for drinks. Ordering was very quick but waiting for your drink takes a long time!

Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge. They have menu cards to view before you order. It didn't seem like they had it on a board in the back so there is a lot of menu sharing. Sugar and ice content can be adjust as well. And you have a choice of trading ice cream for cheese if you order the cheese top.

As it was our first time, we chose a recommended drink. This is the Very Strawberry Cheezo ($49). For $49, this is definitely the most expensive tea drink in Hong Kong. Size was large and there was clear topping of cheese on top. The company is famous for it's cheese top and I have to say, it was really good. It was more like cream cheese. It literally felt like drinking cheesecake. The strawberry, however, was a bit disappointing. Not much strawberry flavor at all. If that is the Very Strawberry, I had to see what the regular strawberry was like. I couldn't really taste much tea as well. There were soft strawberry flavored jelly in the drink s well. Chewy and had a nice strawberry taste. But for $49? Was it really worth it? No.

The drink is ok, but for the price, it is definitely not worth it. You can get just as good drinks for less price than this. Some even taste better for half the price. And if there is a long queue, it definitely not worth the wait. I'd be back but to try the ice cream. I'll see what that is all about.
