North Point always has some very interesting hidden restaurants. Small corners and alleys are filled with eateries. All so different in their own way. Every so often, boyfriend and I will go exploring the area for new places to eat.On this humid evening, we went down this small road that was surprisingly filled with several restaurants! It was off a much larger street and we had not noticed this area before. We decided to try out one of the places and that was Soul9+. The restaurant was small
On this humid evening, we went down this small road that was surprisingly filled with several restaurants! It was off a much larger street and we had not noticed this area before. We decided to try out one of the places and that was Soul9+.
The restaurant was small but there was another group of people eating there. Restaurant was decorated with small trinkets of all sorts.
Menu was in English and Chinese. Prices weren't expensive and there was an option to add $48 to upgrade any main to become a set with a salad and soup. It seemed to serve very regular Western fare.
We added $48 to upgrade one main to become a set so boyfriend could have the soup and I have the salad.
The soup was a creamy potato soup. Rich and creamy with a light sprinkle of herbs. It was even nicely plated with a few drops of balsamic vinegar.
I had the salad and it was good. The greens were fresh. The dressing was balsamic vinegar glaze so it was sweet and tart at the same time. Loved the addition of of fig as well. I could have done without the odd addition of cheese powder.
Smoked Crab Meat Dashimaki Tamago ($98). We ordered this as an appetizer and were not sure why there was a camera icon next to it on the menu. Well ... now I know why. The dish came with a cloche that was filled with smoke.
Lifting it up released a stream of billowing smoke. A bit of entertainment with our meal. Surprise! Surprise!
The egg was nice and fluffy with a slight smokey taste from the smoke addition. It was topped with sweet crab meat.
Roasted Lobster Tail Organic Asparagus Risotto ($138). The risotto was a bit too much on the al dente side. I think it could have done maybe a minute more? But otherwise, creamy enough and nicely seasoned. The lobster tail was perfectly cooked.
Fried North American Striped Bass with Roasted Vegetables and Truffle Cream Mashed Potato ($168). This was a hefty portion as you get two pieces of fish. The skin was crispy and the meat still moist and flakey. The mashed potato was creamy and there is a huge scoop of truffle paste.
For a small restaurant, I didn't expect so much creativity to be found. The dishes were interesting and fairly tasty. Though a few things do need a bit of work. Staff was helpful and friendly. For a small restaurant, this place has potential. I was informed a new menu was coming out soon so they are at least willing to try new things.
