Little did I know about nice restaurants in Mong Kok, I searched around Openrice.com to get more information about that. I found this restaurant in Women Street and to be honest, I never knew there are so many restaurant around the area. Not to mention many of the restaurants were nicely furnished! This restaurant is a specialist for pork. This restaurant is a specialist for pork. As you can see from the menu, they had two pages four large picture recommending different kinds of pork dishes. We ordered a set and a separate bowl as I am not a particular fan for miso soup.
1) Grilled Pork Steak on Rice
The picture on the menu actually looked better than the real dish, but pictures are always used for reference only. Anyhow the dish was decorated fine. The grilled pork on bowl was halfly lean and halfly fat. The fat ones were with tendons, the tendon ones were harder than the lean ones, some were even impossible to chew. Lean ones were soft and tender, which possessed a better texture.
On the other hand, the Rice was amazing. It was indeed one authentic Japanese rice. The quality was good. The rice grains were all fat and round, I personally reckon it had the right balance of chewyness and stickyness.
The House Sauce that went with the bowl paired perfectly with the pork and the rice. Although the given amount were not enough for the bowl, the restaurants was willingly to serve more upon request. Along with the bowl topped some fresh raw onions whic tasted exceptionally nice with the pork and the rice. Must try the combination of everything to grasp the best taste.
2) Sliced Pork Chop on Rice
This was my boyfriend's dish, and for some reason, his dish was nicer than mine most of the time. The sliced port were exactly the same with the thick sliced except the way the pork got prepared. The sliced pork had the exact softness and tenderness as the lean thick sliced pork. As the sliced pork were finely sliced, there were hardly any tendons with them. So may be the thin sliced was a better option then.
3) Tofu Salad
The Tofu salad was included with the set. The tofu was set on top of the veggie sided with baby tomato and mayo. The tofu was icy, soft but was not particularly smooth.
4) Fried Dumplings
I wasn't a big fan when it comes to Japanese dumplings, I had lots of bad memories of fried dumplings created by those Japanese-styled buffet. The deep fried ones were always oily with hard thick skin which was first impossibly to chew and second oily and cold. Yet, this restaurant provided nice pan-fried dumplings. Although it was inevitably oily, the dumpling pastry was soft and thin. The inside filling was pretty nice too!
There were more interesting dishes on the menu that I want to try, e.g. The chocolate curry. I wonder what it tastes like.
