I went there with great expectations, for I always wanted to try it but Quarry Bay was just too far. I just came across with its relocation news and was delighted. The new location - 百樂中心 - is very convenient. Unlike the crowded street packed with drinkers, the cafe is blessed with quiet ambiance and great views. But it was a bit hot with limited air conditioning. And of the around 8 tables, only two were occupied.
So this evening only an All Day Menu was served; which is okay given it's just started. The set comes with choices for main courses and a drink, add $10 and you can get the soup as well. I went for 椰菜卷; boyfriend for Veggie Burger, the latter one - to our surprise - was cheaper. So we thought the 椰菜卷 must be very big and filling. As the result:
The Sweet Corn Soup - The temperature and proportion were okay; very sweet. But I can't tell if it's made of canned soup with corn puree, or whether it was made of fresh corns. But it tasted okay; nothing special.The Cabbage Wrap - As you can see from the picture, there were two small wraps with brown rice in it, plus two slices of fried eggplants, seasoned by something like pumpkin sauce. The temperature was lukewarm, i.e. not hot at all. The wraps are far from filling. I won't say the wraps and the eggplants go well together. It seems to me just a mix of different ingredients without harmony.
Veggie Burger - It does look big; but my boyfriend didn't find it filling at all.
They serve quite a range of Yogi tea, but on the menu it says '花茶', so expect tea bags when you find the names fancy.
To conclude, I am really disappointed. All those reviews on their Quarry Bay place were so encouraging; but I didn't expect when it comes to Causeway Bay light means 'light proportion'. Nor were us impressed by the cooking.
