I first heard about this from a foodie blog that talks about kawaii food to eat in Hong Kong. Apparently, this weird way of eating ice cream came from the .. yes, Koreans. It apparently, is a popular Korean street food.
Located in Mong Kok, near Kwong Wah Hospital, is a small take away only shop that serves one thing and one thing only. Ice cream stuffed in a fish shaped cone. It comes in two flavor stuffings: custard and azuki bean. Price $35.
When you order, you wait for your cone to be made. Everything is made to order so there is about a 10 minute wait.
I chose custard stuffing in my fish ice cream cone. The cone tasted like Hong Kong egg waffles (雞蛋仔). There was a couple of grapes dipped in chocolate stuffed on a stick along with a drizzle of chocolate and peanuts. The ice cream was actually frozen yogurt but it was really icy, not creamy at all and tasted like yakult. The amount of custard added was so small, I almost missed it when biting in. The amount of ice cream was also very small. Especially since the fish cone was the size of my hand.
Definitely disappointed as it really wasn't very good. Nice gimmick. Would not return again.Tip is to not come during the weekends to avoid the long queue. Also, go when school is still in session because after I ordered, a whole mass of students came out of no where and there was a huge crowd.
